Capture your soul.

Veronika – Self Portrait Photographer - @verionikamarzcomplex

Veronika is a careful mix between introverted and extroverted, as she lives this life enjoying her own company. Maybe that’s why her art is what it is… a self-portrait photography style with a creative twist. A weird/mundane flow, styled in an editorial way. This striking confidence is admirable, as is her way of living. She doesn’t live her entire life solitarily, although she does prefer to be alone, she does feel the need to connect with people. So, she connects through art. Don’t get me wrong, this girl does connect through art, but this girl will also go MIA on social media for long amounts of time. In fact, through 2012-2015 she didn’t have any social media at all. She claims she was shy and developed growth, but her exuberant personality has people who meet her thinking she never had a shy bone in her body. Happened for me, at least.

As a photographer, Veronika notices the fact that photos “capture your soul”. She also notices the fact that-- that is hard to do in front of people. By yourself, there are no limits. There is no worry of gossip, cliques, or emotions associated with artists and their art. As artists, it’s hard to not be sensitive about your art. It’s easy for people to desensitize your art, too. Especially with photography. People expect free photos, with no respect for the editing, time, and work you put into the process. As a result of recognizing this, she began to start her self-portrait journey.

Her friends inspired her, as she noticed people around doing the same thing she wanted to do. Aside from friends, Nadia Lee Cohen comes to mind when thinking about attributions to her art form. Those who don’t know who Nadia is, she’s a total babe from Britain who is also a self-portrait artist, as well as a filmmaker, and art photographer. Veronika has the total babe part down already, but she hopes to one day be a part of the development of music videos. The goal is to create mood boards, develop artistic direction, etc., but no editing will be involved in Veronika’s aspirations. Editing is her least favorite part of the process. Her favorite part, what she wants others to know, is that-- she loves to see others flourish, just as much as herself.
